Déjà Vu connects with Evernote

If we were asked to list our favorite companies, Evernote would defintely take one of the top spots. We love Evernote, the product, simply because it’s one of the rare tools that proves to be really useful, and not just a time-killer. (Or, as others have put it: “Evernote is not really an ice cream company”). And we also enjoy cooperating with the team of Evernote, for some of the nicest people in the startup scene we have ever met.

Thus, we are especially happy that – in conjunction with today’s Evernote Trunk conference – we can announce Evernote integration for Déjà Vu. Here’s a video, which shows how it works:

In a nutshell

  • Déjà Vu creates a dedicated Notebook within Evernote.
  • It syncs all Déjà Vu memos there, including their meta-data. This is particularly interesting for Memos, which have been recognized through image recognition.
  • Title and tags are synced to the proper fields.
  • Categories are a specialized hierarchical tag set.
  • The Déjà Vu-triggered note in Evernote consists of the image plus description and links.
  • And all of this is fully automatic.

Why combine Evernote and Déjà Vu?

Both Evernote and Déjà Vu are tools, which help you handle information overflow. Déjà Vu is focussing on handling notes in a visual way. Every memo is simply a picture. Remembering and browsing things visually (i.e. by pictures) is a very natural behavior and humans are really good at this. Furthermore, our strength in image recognition makes automatic organisation of visual notes much easier. However, we don’t offer some the extended note types (voice, text) or a desktop app on as many platforms as Evernote does. In short, some of the features overlap, some are complementary.

In the end, for some users the combination of both products makes sense, and for others just using one tool. We leave the choice up to you. Here are some pointers to the benefits of the combined use:

What’s in for you as a Déjà Vu user?

  • Evernote is available across many platforms including Desktop apps.
  • if you occasionaly take text or web clips besides pictures, and you want to have all your notes in one place, Evernote is a good expansion for that purpose.

What’s in for you as an Evernote user?

  • if you use your mobile camera extensively to take “picture notes” you might want to consider trying Déjà Vu. It’s really tailored for that specific use case and provides fast editing of meta data.
  • you will benefit from kooaba’s image recognition to automatically label and categorize your visual memos

To activate Evernote for Déjà Vu just head to the Settings page of your Déjà Vu account.

We hope you like it! And, if you happen to be at the Evernote Trunk conference, come and meet us!
